What are some good books for 1st graders to read on they're own?

Answer

It's difficult to recomend books for beginning readers, but I'm including one of our "Graded Favorites List for First Grade."

Bootsie Barker Bites, Barbara Bottner;  Goodnight Moon, Margaret Wise Brown;  Stellaluna, Janell Cannon;  Click, Clack, Moo:  Cows That Type, Doreen Cronin;  100th Day Worries, Margery Cuyler;  Strega Nona, Tomie DePaola;  My Cats Nick and Nora, Isabelle Harper;  Harold and the Purple Crayon, Crockett Johnson;  Jump, Frog, Jump!, Robert Kalan;  Snowy Day, Ezra Keats;  Hooway For Wodney Wat, Helen Lester;  Froggy Gets Dressed, Jonathan London;  A Kiss for Little Bear, Else Minarik;  Amelia Bedelia Helps Out, Peggy Parish;  Dog Breath, Dav Pilkey;  Good Night, Gorilla, Peggy Rathmann;  Curious George, H.A. Rey;  Poppleton Forever, Cynthia Rylant;  In a Dark, Dark Room and Other Scary Stories, Alvin Schwartz;  Lizard's Song, George Shannon;  My Big Dog, Janet Stevens;  Noisy Nora, Rosemary Wells;  Harry the Dirty Dog, Gene Zion;  Leo the Late Bloomer, Robert Krauss.

You can request a copy of this and other lists from your favorite library branch.

  2. Yes. If you use the Advanced Search in our online catalog (far right next to the Search button), put the words Dick Jane in the "Title" field, and Spot in the "All These Words" field. I got 11 results from that search.
