To all librarians, Do you like the new blue and black kiosks? Be honest.

I was just wanting to ask more than a few librarians whether or not they like the new kiosks that have been set up at several MCP libraries.

Answer

I will go on record as being in favor of the new kiosks.  First of all, they're necessary to processing our books by the new RFID system.  RFID saves time and effort in tracking our books and other items, and will maintain a more accurate inventory.

The new kiosks are more user friendly than the old check-out stations, and offer more options to our patrons.  Instead of waiting 5-10 minutes to have a credit card payment processed at the busy main desk, patrons can enjoy more privacy and convenience, and finish their transaction in moments instead of minutes.  The new kiosks also offer our patrons more control over their checkouts and returns.  Change is hard, and all of us are dealing with it, but overall, I think the new kiosks are a nice improvement.  FYI -- all 31 of our branches will have the new kiosks by the end of the year.
